Information on how to register your computer on Immobilize
PCs and Laptop Computers are often registered on Immobilize and only take a few minutes to get set up. All you need is your computer's make, model, serial number and optionally a few photographs.
If your registering a laptop gently turn it upside down and examine the laptop for the serial number. The exact position of the serial number will vary but most will be found on a label on the underside of the unit (see diagram, right). If you're registering a workstation you'll typically find the serial number on the side or back usually where the cords and sockets can be found. The label itself usually has a black or grey background with white or black inset text. The actual serial number will normally be labelled with the words "Serial No.".
If you are unsure on where to find the serial number then the manufacturer should be able to advise you.
To register your PC or Laptop simply go to the home page and create an account*. Simply follow the on-screen instructions (an email address is required).
* If you already have an account sign-in and add another item to your account (Go to step 3, second paragraph)
Once inside your Immobilize account you'll be prompted to add your first item by clicking the button "Add your first Inventory item".
If you already have an Immobilize account and are signed-in click the box on the left hand side "Add a new inventory item".to start the registration of your PC or Laptop (shown left).
On the "Item Detail" page provide the details of your laptop/PC by "Type", "Make", "Model", "Description", "Markings", "Date Purchased", and "Purchase Cost". Click next, the details will be saved and you will be taken to the next step.
In the "Identifiers" input box you can add the serial number for the PC/laptop along with any other identification numbers you can find.
For example if you've written the postcode on with a UV pen you could add this along any coded identification stickers you may have applied to your PC/laptop.
Please note adding multiple identifiers increases the likelihood of your item being identified by the Police in the event of its loss or theft.
Once you have added all your identifiers click the the green button "Save" (bottom right) and you will be taken to the next step.
If you have any photographs, a purchase receipt or another relevant document such as an insurance certificate click the blue link "add one now!" that can be found at the bottom of the overview of your newly registered item, or alternatively click the "Edit" link to the right of the images section.
In the input box that now appears simply click the grey "Select" button (shown right) to browse the file to upload, than click the blue button "Upload Image" to add it.
Please note the system will only accept Jpeg file types under 2mb in size.
After navigating to your main account view you should now see your newly registered item.
If you need to make a change click the action dropdown button (shown right) if you need to "Edit/view", "Report Lost", "Report Stolen", "View Certificate", or "Delete" the item.
